Migrating from raw devices to OCFS

Oracle9i RAC database administrators can use one of two methods to migrate from raw devices to OCFS:

Linux dd method: Copies data from the raw devices to the OCFS volumes.
Oracle backup-and-restore method: Backs up data from the raw devices and then restores it on the OCFS volumes.

The dd method is more straightforward and thus easier to implement. For an example of the migration process using this method, see "Migrating from raw devices to OCFS using the Linux dd method" at the end of this article.
